A pair of workout spikes belonging to a left-handed pitcher indicate that the minor leagues is a proving ground -- a place remembered by players fortunate enough to make it to the top as a special time not motivated by fame or money, but rather by playing
And, for those players whose careers end in the ranks of the minors, this time will be recalled as their final days of glory, when they played baseball somewhere, and actually got paid to do it
