Although professional baseball in California dates back to the late 1880s, the California League, as it is known today, formed in 1941. The league blacked out for three seasons during World War II, and has operated mostly with 10 Class-A major league affiliates, separated into Northern and Souther Divisions, which stretch through California from Stockton to Lake Elsinore
